Richard "Richie" Mirando, known by his graffiti artist name Seen UA, was born in 1961 in the Bronx, New York City. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and renowned graffiti artists in the world and has been dubbed the Godfather of Graffiti.

Seen began painting on New York City subway trains in 1973 with his crew, United Artists (UA), which consisted of Duster, Sin, and his brother Mad. The crew painted whole subway cars, and Seen's pieces were especially prominent on the 2, 5, and 6 subway lines. He created dozens of top-to-bottom whole-car pieces that have since become iconic images of the era. Despite the increased pressure from the MTA to stop painting subway trains, Seen continued to do so until 1989. In 1983, he was featured in the PBS documentary Style Wars.
During the early 1980s, Seen began producing artwork on canvas, which was displayed in galleries and purchased by museums and private collectors worldwide. He participated in group shows with famous artists such as Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Dondi, Quik, Blade, and Lee Quiñones. However, despite his worldwide success, Seen continued to paint subway trains in New York City.
In the late 1980s, Seen opened a tattoo parlor, Tattoo Seen, which became one of the most successful studios in New York City. He also began creating three-dimensional sculptures, mixed media work with reclaimed or discarded materials found in the street, and a series of hand-painted MTA New York subway maps. He continues to exhibit his work worldwide and collaborate with artists such as Banksy.
In 2009, the Seen Gallery opened in Paris before becoming the Seen Studios, France. His work has also been exhibited at the Fondation Cartier. Seen had a solo exhibition at Magda Danysz Gallery in 2010, and in 2011, he joined Opera Gallery, which has 12 locations worldwide, and exhibited his work in its Paris gallery.
Seen's throw-ups and pieces can be seen in digital video games such as The Warriors, Marc Eckō's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, and Grand Theft Auto V. He is particularly known for painting comic book heroes and has his own clothing line that prints t-shirts with his lettering and comic hero renderings.
Seen has had several solo exhibitions throughout his career, including shows at The Yaki Kornblitt Gallery in Amsterdam, the Stellweg-Seguy gallery in New York City, the Suntory company in Tokyo, the Clayton Gallery and Bob's Gallery in New York City, the Twenty-four Gallery in Vancouver, the Toy Tokyo Gallery, STIP Gallery, Stussy SF Gallery, Concrete Vibes Gallery, and Marco Art Gallery in New York City, the Rocket World Gallery in San Francisco, the Outside Institute Space in London, the Prosper Gallery in Tokyo, the Mc Caigwelles Gallery in New York City, the Stolen Space gallery in London, and the Galerie Chappe and Carhartt Gallery in Paris.
In 2014, Seen published a book titled "They call me the godfather of graffiti Chapter 1973-1981" through his studio SEEN Studios and SDLB Publishing.
